About
The wingfoil board is a 7-day planner for wingfoiling spots on the Hampshire, Dorset and West Sussex coast. This copy runs without the e-paper panel: the board is this website.
How it decides
Every spot is checked in 30-minute slots during daylight. The wind limits are set on the Spots page. A slot is:
- GO: mean wind 12.0–35.0 kn with no gust over 50.0 kn, direction inside the spot's sector, and the tide right (inside the HW/LW window, and above the minimum height if one is set).
- Near: direction and tide right, wind 10.0–12.0 kn. A GO run shorter than 1 hour isn't worth the drive, so it's shown as Near too.
- Too light: direction and tide right, but under 10.0 kn.
- Too strong: direction and tide right, but mean wind over 35.0 kn or gusts over 50.0 kn.
- Dotted: night, already past, or beyond the forecast or tide data.
Below the grid, the board lists the best session of each day. Longer, windier sessions score higher, and each hour of drive costs a little.
How it runs
- One service,
inky-web, runs this site. Every 3 hours, and whenever the spots are saved, it fetches fresh wind and tides and updates the board. - Anyone who can reach the site can view it. Editing spots need the editor password.
Caveat
This is a forecast filter, not a safety tool. Check the conditions, the tide and local hazards yourself before you go out.
